About Me

In short, I’m a father, husband, author, recovering alcoholic & salesman, cancer survivor, business consultant, and ghostwriter.

The stress test of a lifetime.

Here’s a look at my new right shoulder blade. A rare form of bone cancer took the one I started with. It completely turned my life upside down.

Luckily, I spent the months before my diagnosis putting together a system to get my mind right and body straight. I think of my diagnosis as the final exam, and it proved powerful enough to keep me sober, sane, and focused on the future.

Now I’m on a mission to share what I’ve learned with people who struggle to find peace and clarity. It’s not easy in the age of short attention spans and new hacks everyday. I get it, and I want to help.

Overcome overthinking

We think too fast, and it drives us crazy. We simply cannot process our thoughts when they start to runaway from us.

Writing can slow us down, give us a chance to catch up to our thoughts, and help us move towards action (where the good stuff happens).

My system leverages those benefits  to get over rumination and resentment, two toxic feelings we encounter all the time.

Something bigger than myself

The challenges we have overcome, and continue to struggle with, constantly reinforce the power of our relationships.

AA, rehab, positive psychology, and experts on work fulfillment agree we get more meaning and satisfaction out of life when we attach ourselves to something bigger than us.

Some people choose religion, some politics, nature is a popular choice, but I chose family & friends. The challenges we have overcome, and continue to struggle with, constantly reinforce the power of relationships.

Here I am with my family, looking across the bay of Naples, at Vesuvius.

HALT: A system for our most important struggles.

If we think about problems on a grid with one axis being physical/emotional issues and personal (internal)/social (external) on the other, we can see the big ones will never go away.

Instead of looking for hacks to overcome them (which I did for a long time!), I started getting better results when I accepted their permeance and took a long-term approach.

It’s the basis of my self-care now, and it’s powerful.
